We are sure: After you have become interested in the vacation region Wagrain-Kleinarl, you already know about our numerous natural advantages: Unspoilt mountain nature, alpine pastures, hiking trails and climbing routes, ski slopes and cross-country ski trails show their most magnificent side in summer as well as in winter and invite for sports and nature experiences in the fresh air.

But also away from nature, sports, mountain and ski Wagrain has all kinds of discoveries in store.
Did you know that Wagrain is the home of the most famous Christmas carol in the world?

Do you know the writings of Karl Heinrich Waggerl? And would you like to get up close and personal with traditional, rural craftsmanship? This can also be experienced in Wagrain.

Waggerl, customs and crafts

Another famous son of the community Wagrain is Karl Heinrich Waggerl, who can be considered one of the most important poets and writers in Austria. As the author of novels such as "Brot" or "Mütter" he lived on the „Kirchboden“ in Wagrain. His former residence is now accessible as Museum Waggerl Haus.

Also worth seeing is the farm museum, which shows traditional craftsmanship and rural life in past times.

Wagrain and the "Silent Night"

"Silent night, holy night, all is asleep, lonely awake..." - This probably most famous Christmas song in the world is known by every child. What not every child knows is that "Silent Night" is closely connected to Wagrain.
Lyricist Josef Mohr was the parish vicar of Wagrain for several years, cared for the needy of the community and is buried at the parish cemetery of Wagrain. Evidence of this can be found in many places in Wagrain: the local Pflegerschlössl is a houses a Silent Night Museum and the Josef Mohr School keeps the memory of the pastor and lyricist alive.
